I'll admit, I'm no professional blogger, but please feel free to grab some tea, take a seat, and enjoy these pages as you learn more about God's workings in Thailand. I hope you're able to laugh (and maybe cry) with me as we experience each of these moments together.
First off, I know there are some questions:
Who is the organization you're going with?
Why are you going to Thailand?
How long will you be there?
What do you hope to accomplish from this trip?
These are great questions, and I'll happily explain.
Who is the organization you're going with?
I will be serving with OMF International (Overseas Mission Fellowship). It was first started by J. Hudson Taylor (from England) in 1865 as the China Inland Mission. Although it first started in China, OMF now brings the Gospel of Christ to 12 different countries in Asia. They provide short term and long term opportunities of sharing Christ through serving, building relationships, evangelism, and discipleship.
Please check them out at: http://www.omf.org/us
Why are you going to Thailand (and Taiwan)?
I did not set out to specifically pick Thailand. OMF asked me what my interests were and I said children's ministries and camps. I'll admit, at first I wasn't too excited about the thought of Thailand (it's about 90 degrees F year round and high humidity...you have to understand, I'm a winter person! I like my snow!), but after praying about it, I felt a real peace about going. And now I'm excited to see God working in both of these areas.
How long will you be there?
I will be in Asia about 6 months. I leave Wednesday, March 27th for Thailand and will be there until September 11th. After this, I will head back to the States for debriefing (getting a chance to talk and reflect about my trip with other missionaries).
What do you hope to accomplish from this trip?
First, I'd like to glorify God with this trip. Going overseas and serving others is all about bringing more glory to His name. He alone is worthy of this praise.
Second, I would love to be a a help (however much I can be) to the missionaries even if it's something as simple as cleaning the dishes.
Third, I would like to find out if I see God being able to use me in the future of this country. I'm praying for open eyes as I look for possible future opportunities.
I am thinking of you today as you prepare for your trip:)! Keep the updates coming and when you return, we'll have time together to debrief.
